Pollença lies in the north of Mallorca, six kilometres inland from its port. The town grew around the Plaça Major and is defined by the Calvary steps with their 365 stairs. Unlike the coastal resorts, Pollença lives all year: the Sunday market is among the largest on the island, and doctors, schools and shops stay open through the winter. From Palma it is a good 50 minutes on the Ma-13. For a seasonal rental in the north, Pollença is the more dependable choice than Port de Pollença, where much closes between November and March.
Daily life and getting around
Pollença has everything for daily life: supermarkets, doctors, schools, pharmacies and the Sunday market, one of the largest on the island. The centre is walkable, and the Calvary steps with their 365 stairs are the favourite evening walk.
Palma is a good 50 minutes on the Ma-13, the airport around 55. The train only reaches sa Pobla or Inca, with a bus onwards. A car is effectively a requirement here.
Who rents here, and winter
Winterers, road cyclists from February to April and families who want quiet and landscape. Living in the town rather than at the port means a working daily life between November and March too.
Port de Pollença, by contrast, winds down heavily in winter. If you want activity, look in the town centre; if you prefer quiet by the water, the port is exactly right.
