Binissalem lies in the centre of the island on the railway line between Palma and Inca, around 25 minutes from the capital. It is Mallorca's wine centre and gives its name to the island's oldest denomination of origin. The historic core is built of manor houses in Santanyí sandstone; the Festa des Vermar wine festival in September is the best known on the island. For a seasonal rental, Binissalem combines a good rail link with a townscape that is not built around tourism.
Daily life and getting around
Binissalem has a supermarket, doctors, schools and a Friday market. The historic core with its manor houses is walkable.
The train to Palma takes around 25 minutes, to Inca ten. By car on the Ma-13 it is about 20 minutes to Palma.
Who rents here, and winter
People who want a rail link, village life and a price level below Santa Maria. Supply is limited, but there is less competition.
Everything carries on in winter. In September the Festa des Vermar is the island's largest wine festival; in February the almond blossom comes out all around.
