Inca lies in the centre of the island and, with around 35,000 inhabitants, is Mallorca's third city. Traditionally it is the centre of leatherworking, and its Thursday market is the largest on the island. There is a hospital, schools and a station from which the train reaches Palma in around 40 minutes — the best rail link outside the capital. From Inca you can reach either coast in about half an hour. For a seasonal rental, central Mallorca is the island's most underrated area: more space for the money and daily life that does not depend on the season.
Daily life and getting around
Inca has a hospital, schools, specialist shops and, in the Thursday market, the largest market on the island. The centre is compact and walkable.
The train to Palma takes around 40 minutes and runs several times an hour — the best rail link outside the capital. The north coast at Alcúdia is 20 minutes away, the east coast around 30.
Who rents here, and winter
Families, professionals with appointments across the island, and anyone who wants a lot of space for little money. If you want to manage without a car, this is the second-best address after Palma.
Everything carries on in winter, because Inca is not a resort. In February the almond blossom comes out all around. What is missing is the sea on the doorstep — but either coast is half an hour away.
