Capdepera lies at Mallorca's north-eastern tip, around 75 minutes from Palma, crowned by one of the best-preserved 14th-century fortifications on the island. The municipality includes Cala Ratjada with its fishing harbour, the dune bay of Cala Mesquida and the Capdepera lighthouse. The old town stays inhabited all year, while the coastal parts are strongly seasonal. For a winter let, look in the old centre rather than right on the water.
Daily life and getting around
Capdepera town has a supermarket, doctors, a school and the Wednesday market. Cala Ratjada, with its fishing harbour and shops, is three kilometres away.
Palma is around 75 minutes — the longest drive of any municipality on this site. The airport is about 70. Without a car the area is not practical.
Who rents here, and winter
People who want coves and quiet and accept the distance from Palma. Cala Mesquida and Cala Agulla are among the finest beaches on the island.
In winter the difference is stark: the old town stays inhabited while Cala Ratjada winds down heavily. For a winter let, look in the town rather than by the water.
