Andratx lies in the far south-west of Mallorca, around 35 minutes from Palma. The town itself sits inland, three kilometres from its port, and lives all year: a Wednesday market, doctors, schools and shops stay open when much in the coastal resorts closes. Port d'Andratx with its fishing boats and marina is the better-known part; Sant Elm and Camp de Mar also belong to the municipality. The Serra de Tramuntana begins all around, with the GR 221 long-distance path. For a seasonal rental the town centre is the more dependable choice than the harbour.
Daily life and getting around
Andratx town has supermarkets, doctors, schools and the Wednesday market. Port d'Andratx lies three kilometres on at the water; Sant Elm and Camp de Mar also belong to the municipality.
Palma is around 35 minutes on the Ma-1. Buses run along the coast, on a reduced winter timetable. Plan on a car for daily life.

The town centre stays alive all year, Port d'Andratx at least partly. Camp de Mar, by contrast, is largely empty in winter. For a winter let the town is the safer choice.
